Organizing Fish Marketing and Distribution In Nigeria

Written By Unknown on Sunday 30 September 2012 | 20:25

That is an integral aspect of fish production because it is only when the fish reaches the final destination (consumers) that production might be complete. Marketing has been understood to be all processes involved from the production of any commodity until it gets on the final consumer.

Apart from seasonality, scarcity and methods of preservation which are the primary problems of fresh fish advertising and marketing, transportation is also observed becoming a major problem in fish advertising and marketing and distribution in Nigeria. Most fresh fish sellers travelled by road and a few of the roads are bush tracks while other people are tarred but in a state of disrepair. This reduces the volume of traffic within the roads and raises the price tag on transporting fish. The government should open upwards more roads and intensify efforts within the maintenance of existing road and as well create a more enabling environment for more people to go into aquaculture in an attempt to beat the seasonality of fresh fish supply as a result of inadequate and high cost involving fish preservation/storage in Nigeria.
